The Road Trauma Support Group NSW is the voice for those killed by an illegal act of a road user. We advocate for positive change by working with government and community organisations to provide better systems and support for those left behind and, ultimately, towards zero road deaths in NSW.

Reform Manifesto

In the pursuit of justice and support for those impacted by the tragic loss of a loved one due to criminal acts on our roads, the Road Trauma Support Group NSW advocates for judicial reforms. Our commitment lies in establishing stronger deterrents and implementing systemic changes that provide unwavering support to individuals navigating the aftermath of such devastating incidents. Our reform agenda is founded on evidence-based research and lived experience. All are pragmatic, specific, achievable, relevant and urgently required to save lives.

NSW Law Reform Commission Consultation Paper

Current laws are outdated and not fit for purpose in relation to road crime. Through the advocacy efforts of the Road Trauma Support Group NSW in 2022, we engaged with the then NSW Attorney Mark Speakman and consulted with Tom Bathurst KC. Our collective voice has led to a significant milestone: the Law Reform Commission has released a public consultation paper seeking responses by March 1st 2024.

Time to end the language of denial

The Road Trauma Support Group New South Wales (RTSG NSW), with the support of NSW Police, is proud to introduce Australia's first-ever Road Collision Reporting Guidelines (RCRG). An initiative that will change the language surrounding road incidents.

Unheard trauma of fatal road crimes in NSW Research

Criminal road trauma impacts 253,000 people, or four per cent of the NSW population and costs the state $9 billion, according to ground-breaking research released by Road Trauma Support Group NSW (RTSGNSW). For Research Enquiries, contact Kristy Coulcher at kristy@rtsgnsw.org.au.

World Day of Remembrance for Road Traffic Victims 2023

Remembering all the people killed and seriously injured on NSW roads. Acknowledging the crucial work of the NSW emergency services. Drawing attention to the generally trivial legal response to culpable road deaths and injuries and advocating for an appropriately serious response. Advocating for better support for road traffic victims and victim families. Promoting evidence-based actions to prevent further road traffic deaths and injuries. #WDoR2023

Community Support Services

Long after the crash, survivors, family and friends continue to feel the impact. The Road Trauma Support Group NSW hosts monthly peer-support group meetings and offers referrals to support and counselling services. We have a supportive online community which also provides peer support.
